Overview

Bacillus coagulans IBRC-M10791 is a novel probiotic strain investigated for its potential therapeutic application in multiple sclerosis (MS). Research in cuprizone-induced mouse models of demyelination indicates that the strain can modulate the gut microbiota and metabolome, leading to a significant reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-17 and IFN-gamma, while modulating anti-inflammatory factors like IL-4 and TGF-beta. Furthermore, it downregulates the expression of key genes in the tryptophan (IDO-1), vitamin D (CYP27B1), and inflammasome (NLRP1, NLRP3, AIM2) pathways. These molecular changes are associated with enhanced remyelination and improved cognitive performance, suggesting its potential as a co-therapeutic strategy for neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases.
