Overview

Bacillus coagulans SNZ 1969 is a proprietary, spore-forming probiotic strain developed and manufactured by Sanzyme Biologics. Originally introduced to the Indian market in 1972 as SPORLAC, it was the first probiotic sold in India. As a spore-former, the strain is naturally resilient to gastric acid and bile, allowing it to reach the intestines where it germinates and exerts its effects. Its primary mechanism involves modulating the gut-immune axis, specifically by enhancing natural killer (NK) cell activity and increasing mucosal immunoglobulin A (IgA) levels, thereby supporting both innate and adaptive immunity. Clinically, it has been studied for its efficacy in improving gastrointestinal health—including symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-C and IBS-D)—and for its role in supporting immune health in both adults and children.
