Overview

Bacillus mesentericus is a spore-forming, Gram-positive bacterium commonly found in soil, water, and the gastrointestinal tracts of animals. It is primarily used as a probiotic supplement to promote gastrointestinal health. As a probiotic, Bacillus mesentericus helps restore and maintain the balance of beneficial bacteria in the gut, supports digestion by regulating abnormal bowel movements, and enhances immune function. It may also exhibit antimicrobial properties against certain pathogens. Clinical uses include management of antibiotic-associated diarrhea, infectious diarrhea, gastroenteritis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), constipation, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, traveler’s diarrhea, lactose intolerance symptoms relief in some patients with chronic constipation or other GI disturbances[1][4][8]. The mechanism involves inhibition of pathogenic bacterial growth and support for healthy intestinal microflora.
