Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacillus subtilis BC01 is a specific strain of the Gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium *Bacillus subtilis* developed by Bionova Lifesciences as a live biotherapeutic product. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, specifically diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) and functional dyspepsia. The BC01 strain is characterized by its ability to survive gastric transit and colonize the intestinal tract, where it promotes a healthy microbial balance, strengthens the intestinal barrier, and modulates immune activity. In Phase 3 clinical trials, BC01 has been evaluated for its efficacy in reducing abdominal pain and improving stool consistency in patients with IBS-D.
