Overview

Bacillus subtilis DE111 is a branded, clinically-studied strain of the probiotic bacterium *Bacillus subtilis*. As a spore-forming organism, it is highly resistant to heat and stomach acid, allowing it to survive transit through the upper gastrointestinal tract and germinate in the small intestine. [4, 5, 19] Clinical trials and studies have investigated its use for supporting digestive health, including improving bowel regularity and alleviating occasional constipation or diarrhea. [NCT04083521, 18] It is also studied for its ability to modulate the immune system, exhibiting anti-inflammatory effects and supporting a healthy immune response. [2, 3, 7] Further research suggests it may help maintain healthy cholesterol levels, aid in the digestion of nutrients like gluten, and support a healthy gut microbiome by crowding out pathogenic bacteria. [NCT04489810, 8, 10] DE111 was developed by Deerland Probiotics & Enzymes, which is now part of ADM, and is used as an ingredient in various dietary supplements, foods, and beverages. [6, 9, 11, 15]
