Bacillus velezensis DSM 33864 is a specific probiotic strain of the Gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium *Bacillus velezensis*. Developed by Novozymes (now Novonesis), it is being investigated as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) for the reduction of risk of recurrent *Clostridioides difficile* infection (rCDI). The strain is intended to be administered orally following standard antibiotic treatment to restore gut microbiota balance and prevent the regrowth of toxigenic *C. difficile*. Its mechanism of action likely involves competitive exclusion, where the probiotic outcompetes the pathogen for nutrients and adhesion sites, and the potential secretion of antimicrobial compounds that directly inhibit *C. difficile* colonization.
