Overview

*Bacillus velezensis* YHX003J is a specialized strain of Gram-positive, endospore-forming bacteria developed as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) for the management of cat hair allergies. It is utilized as a key active component in an environmental probiotic spray intervention designed to alleviate symptoms in patients with cat allergy-induced allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma. The primary mechanism of action involves the secretion of extracellular proteases, including subtilisin-type enzymes, which enzymatically degrade the major cat dander allergen, Fel d 1, in the patient's immediate surroundings (such as bedding, carpets, and air). By lowering the concentration of environmental allergens, the strain reduces the immunological triggers that drive airway inflammation and allergic symptoms. This strain is currently being evaluated in clinical trials as part of a multi-strain probiotic formulation sponsored by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine.
