Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacitracin Plus is an over-the-counter (OTC) topical antibiotic ointment marketed by CrossingWell (formerly Randob Labs). It is indicated for the prevention and treatment of minor skin infections resulting from minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. The active ingredient, bacitracin, is a cyclic polypeptide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. It functions by binding to C55-isoprenyl pyrophosphate, a lipid carrier molecule, thereby preventing the dephosphorylation and recycling of the carrier required to transport peptidoglycan subunits across the bacterial cell membrane. This mechanism is primarily bactericidal against Gram-positive organisms. Despite the 'Plus' suffix, which often indicates a combination product in the topical antibiotic market, the product is specified as a single-ingredient antibiotic ointment in company documentation.
