Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacitraycin (marketed as Bacitraycin Plus) is a topical first-aid antibiotic ointment containing bacitracin zinc as its active ingredient. It is used to prevent minor skin infections caused by small cuts, scrapes, or burns. Bacitracin zinc is a polypeptide antibiotic that interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to undecaprenyl pyrophosphate, a critical lipid carrier required for peptidoglycan precursor transport. This sequestration prevents the dephosphorylation and recycling of the lipid carrier, weakening the bacterial cell wall and leading to cell lysis. The brand was originally developed by First Aid Research and was acquired by Randob Labs (now CrossingWell Consumer Health) in 2021.
