Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cortracin-L is a topical combination medication developed and marketed by CND Pharma. It is a multi-ingredient formulation containing three antibiotics (bacitracin zinc, neomycin sulfate, and polymyxin b sulfate), a corticosteroid (hydrocortisone), and a local anesthetic (lidocaine). This combination is designed to treat minor skin infections while simultaneously reducing inflammation, itching, and providing temporary relief from pain. The antibiotic components provide broad-spectrum coverage against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis (bacitracin), disrupting protein synthesis (neomycin), and altering cell membrane permeability (polymyxin B). Hydrocortisone acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by suppressing the immune response, while lidocaine provides analgesic effects by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve fibers. It is typically used for the prevention and treatment of infections in minor cuts, scrapes, and burns.
