Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**bacitracin zinc + polymyxin b sulfate + hydrocortisone + neomycin** is a topical ophthalmic combination product containing three antibacterial agents and one corticosteroid. Neomycin and polymyxin B provide broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, bacitracin adds additional Gram-positive antibacterial coverage, and hydrocortisone reduces ocular inflammation through glucocorticoid receptor-mediated anti-inflammatory effects. The ointment is indicated for steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions in which a corticosteroid is indicated and there is bacterial infection or risk of bacterial infection, including inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the globe, as well as chronic anterior uveitis and corneal injury from chemical, radiation, or thermal burns or penetration of foreign bodies. It is marketed as a generic ophthalmic ointment by multiple manufacturers rather than a single originator company.
