Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A topical ophthalmic combination product containing **bacitracin zinc**, **neomycin sulfate**, and **polymyxin B** as antibacterial agents plus **hydrocortisone** as a corticosteroid anti-inflammatory. It is used for steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions in which bacterial infection is present or there is risk of bacterial infection, including inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the globe, as well as chronic anterior uveitis and corneal injury from chemical, radiation, or thermal burns or foreign-body penetration. The antibiotic components provide broad coverage against common ocular pathogens such as *Staphylococcus aureus*, streptococci including *Streptococcus pneumoniae*, *Escherichia coli*, *Haemophilus influenzae*, *Klebsiella/Enterobacter* species, *Neisseria* species, and *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, while hydrocortisone reduces inflammatory signaling through glucocorticoid receptor activation. The product is marketed primarily as a generic ophthalmic ointment rather than under a single dominant proprietary brand.
