Overview
Bacitracin zinc + hydrocortisone acetate + neomycin sulfate + polymyxin b is a marketed fixed-dose **ophthalmic ointment** that combines three topical antibacterial agents with a corticosteroid for treatment of **steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions when bacterial infection is present or a meaningful risk of infection exists**. The antibacterial components provide complementary coverage by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis and protein synthesis and by disrupting bacterial membranes, while hydrocortisone acetate suppresses ocular inflammation. The product is used in inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the globe, as well as chronic anterior uveitis and corneal injury due to chemical, radiation, or thermal burns or penetration of foreign bodies.
