Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacitracin zinc + lidocaine hydrochloride + polymyxin b sulfate + neomycin sulfate is an over-the-counter topical combination product composed of three antibiotics plus a local anesthetic. Bacitracin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, polymyxin B disrupts the outer membrane of susceptible gram-negative bacteria, and lidocaine provides local analgesia by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels. The combination is typically formulated as an ointment for first-aid use to help prevent infection and provide temporary pain relief in minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. Publicly listed marketed examples include Biotic-Plus and other store-brand triple-antibiotic-plus-lidocaine products marketed under the US OTC monograph framework rather than as a conventional novel prescription asset.
