Bacitracin zinc + neomycin sulfate + polymyxin b is a fixed-dose **triple-antibiotic ophthalmic combination** of small-molecule anti-infectives used topically in the eye for superficial bacterial infections of the external eye and its adnexa. The combination provides broad antibacterial coverage through complementary mechanisms: bacitracin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, neomycin is an aminoglycoside that binds the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit and inhibits protein synthesis, and polymyxin b disrupts the outer and cytoplasmic membranes of susceptible gram-negative bacteria by binding lipopolysaccharide and membrane phospholipids. It is marketed in ophthalmic ointment form under brands including Neosporin and Neo-Polycin and is indicated for conditions such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, blepharitis, and blepharoconjunctivitis caused by susceptible bacteria. It is a longstanding generic multi-manufacturer product rather than a single contemporary proprietary development asset.
