Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BACLOCALM is an oral formulation of baclofen, a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant. Marketed by Labatec Pharma, it is primarily used for the management of muscle spasticity associated with neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injuries, as well as other musculoskeletal disorders. Baclofen acts as an agonist at the gamma-aminobutyric acid type B (GABA-B) receptors in the spinal cord. By stimulating these receptors, it inhibits both monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflex transmission, which reduces the release of excitatory neurotransmitters. This mechanism leads to a decrease in muscle spasms, pain, and stiffness, improving motor function in patients with chronic spasticity.
