**Bacoside A** is a mixture of dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins and is the principal bioactive constituent of *Bacopa monnieri* (Brahmi), an herb used in traditional medicine for cognitive enhancement and neuroprotection[1][2][5]. Chemically, bacoside A encompasses four saponins: bacoside A3, bacopaside II, jujubogenin isomer of bacopasaponin C (bacopaside X), and bacopasaponin C[1][5]. Its mechanism of action includes antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing effects, prevention of lipid peroxidation, upregulation of antioxidant enzymes, and stabilization of neuronal membranes[1]. It regulates mRNA translation and surface expression of neuroreceptors such as AMPA, NMDA, and GABA receptors in the brain[1]. Experimental evidence shows bacoside A inhibits cytotoxicity and fibrillation of amyloid-beta (Aβ42), potentially ameliorating Alzheimer's disease pathology[3]. Some studies also indicate interaction with dopamine D1 receptors[5].
