Overview
Biomunil/Immucytal (marketed as Ribomunyl) is a ribosome-component immune modulator (RCIM) and biological response modifier developed by Pierre Fabre Pharma. It is a bacterial extract composed of ribosomal fractions from *Klebsiella pneumoniae*, *Streptococcus pneumoniae*, *Streptococcus pyogenes*, and *Haemophilus influenzae*, along with membrane fractions from *Klebsiella pneumoniae*. The drug acts as an oral immunostimulant by activating both the innate and adaptive immune systems. Its mechanism involves the stimulation of specific humoral and secretory antibodies (particularly secretory IgA) against the included bacterial strains, as well as the activation of macrophages, natural killer (NK) cells, and T lymphocytes. It is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of recurrent upper and lower respiratory tract infections, particularly in pediatric populations.
