The bacterial spray developed at Ghent University is an investigational live biotherapeutic product for the treatment of bromhidrosis, also known as axillary malodor or persistent underarm odor. [7, 16] Developed by a research team led by Dr. Chris Callewaert, the therapy is administered as a topical spray. [2, 6, 7] Its mechanism of action involves microbiome transplantation, where the spray delivers a community of 'good', non-odor-causing bacteria (such as *Staphylococcus* species) to the underarm skin. [2, 7] This is intended to displace the endogenous, malodor-producing bacteria (primarily *Corynebacterium* species) and establish a healthier, non-smelling skin microbiome. [2, 5, 10] A Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT03967470), titled "Bacteriotherapy to Improve Underarm Odor," has been completed to evaluate the efficacy of this approach. [8, 9]
