Overview

This bacteriophage cocktail is an experimental therapeutic developed by the Chinese PLA General Hospital for the treatment of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria. The cocktail is composed of multiple lytic bacteriophages specifically selected to target and lyse pathogenic bacteria such as *Acinetobacter baumannii*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, and *Klebsiella pneumoniae*. Administered via nebulization, the therapy delivers the phages directly to the site of infection in the lungs, where they replicate within and destroy the target bacterial cells while sparing the host's commensal microbiota. This approach is being evaluated as a potential alternative or adjunct to conventional antibiotics in patients with severe respiratory infections caused by highly resistant bacterial strains.
