Overview

This is an investigational bacteriophage cocktail being developed by the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego). It is being evaluated for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). The therapy consists of a cocktail of multiple bacteriophages, which are naturally occurring viruses that target and destroy specific bacterial species. A specific formulation mentioned contains four phages targeting *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, a common cause of chronic lung infections in CF patients. The treatment is being studied in the TAPT (Taking Advantage of Phage Technologies) Phase 1 clinical trial, where it is administered intravenously in combination with standard antibiotics. The research is led by UC San Diego's Center for Innovative Phage Applications and Therapeutics (IPATH). [9, 14, 15]
