Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacteriophage KSY1a is an investigational, strictly lytic jumbo phage belonging to the *Phikzvirus* genus, with a genome size of approximately 282,489 bp. Maintained within the Singapore Phage Repository, KSY1a is developed for the treatment of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* infections, including pneumonia and indwelling medical device-associated infections (such as vascular graft infections). KSY1a targets and binds to the flagella of *P. aeruginosa*. Resistance to KSY1a is associated with mutations in flagellar genes (such as FliE, FliM, and FlgL), which impairs the bacteria's ability to form biofilms and reduces their overall virulence, thereby imposing a significant fitness cost. KSY1a is administered via nebulized inhalation or intravenous infusion, typically in combination with conventional antibiotics to achieve synergistic bactericidal effects and prevent bacterial regrowth.
