Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacteriophage MSP16 is a temperate bacteriophage belonging to the genus *Fibralongavirus* within the *Siphoviridae* family [P2690]. It was isolated from canine skin swabs and veterinary clinic wastewater in Brazil [P2690]. MSP16 exhibits broad-spectrum lytic activity against methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus pseudintermedius* (MRSP) strains, which are major causes of canine skin and wound infections [P2690]. The phage genome encodes a holin-endolysin lysis system and anti-CRISPR (Acr) proteins that facilitate evasion of bacterial defense mechanisms [P2690]. MSP16 is under preclinical development for the treatment and management of MRSP infections in companion dogs, demonstrating both biofilm prevention and degradation capabilities [P2690].
