Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacteriophage Vb_Sm_GA is a novel lytic bacteriophage isolated from wastewater in Tbilisi, Georgia, by researchers at the Eliava Institute of Bacteriophages, Microbiology and Virology [1]. It specifically targets *Stenotrophomonas maltophilia*, an emerging Gram-negative multidrug-resistant (MDR) nosocomial pathogen [1]. In vitro studies have demonstrated that Vb_Sm_GA has strong lytic activity against certain MDR and biofilm-producing *S. maltophilia* clinical isolates, maintaining low bacterial concentrations in time-kill assays [1]. It is being investigated for its therapeutic potential against antibiotic-resistant *S. maltophilia* infections [1].
