Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacteriophages targeting *Enterobacter* are a class of lytic bacterial viruses being investigated as a potential phage therapy to combat multidrug-resistant and carbapenem-resistant *Enterobacter* infections. These phages specifically infect and lyse *Enterobacter* species, such as *Enterobacter cloacae* and *Enterobacter xiangfangensis*, which are common pathogens in hospital-acquired infections (including bacteremia, lower respiratory tract infections, and urinary tract infections). By binding to specific bacterial cell surface receptors, these bacteriophages inject their genetic material, replicate within the host, and ultimately cause bacterial lysis, offering a highly specific, self-replicating, and self-limiting alternative or adjunct to conventional antibiotic therapy.
