Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacteroides xylanisolvens AY11-1 is a strain of the gut bacterium Bacteroides xylanisolvens. It is notable for its ability to efficiently consume polyguluronate (PG), a component of dietary fiber, and produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are beneficial metabolites in the human gut[1]. There is emerging interest in this and related strains for their potential use as live biotherapeutic products, particularly in modulating gut microbiota and treating conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), as indicated by recent research and patent applications from academic institutions in China[CN114806962B]. However, it is not currently marketed as a pharmaceutical drug or dietary supplement.
