Drug intelligence / Profile preview
*Bacteroides xylanisolvens* NSP003 is a specific strain of gut commensal bacteria identified for its potential therapeutic role in treating ulcerative colitis. It is enriched by low-esterified pectin and has been studied as a live biotherapeutic product, both individually and as part of a microbial consortium. Mechanistically, it contributes to the amelioration of colitis by remodeling the gut microbiome (increasing propionic acid levels), modulating intestinal homeostasis through the activation of PI3K/calcium signaling pathways, and reprogramming systemic metabolism, specifically increasing serum phenylethylamine levels. The strain was characterized by researchers at Nanchang University.
