Bactogard

Bactogard is an anti-infective medication developed and marketed by Indoco Remedies. Its active ingredient is cefpodoxime proxetil, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic. It functions by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan, leading to bacterial cell lysis. Bactogard is indicated for a wide range of bacterial infections, including acute otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia and bronchitis), urinary tract infections, and typhoid fever. It is available in various oral formulations, including tablets, suspensions, and drops, making it suitable for both adult and pediatric populations.
