Overview

bacTRL nAB is a preclinical gene therapy candidate developed by Symvivo for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19. It utilizes Symvivo's proprietary **bacTRL™** platform, which employs engineered *Bifidobacterium longum* (a probiotic bacterium) as a vector to deliver plasmid DNA directly to the patient's cells, typically via oral or intravenous administration. In this specific application, the plasmid is designed to encode neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Once the DNA is internalized by the host's cells, the cells' own machinery produces and secretes the therapeutic antibodies *in vivo*. This approach aims to provide a scalable and potentially long-lasting alternative to traditional monoclonal antibody infusions by turning the patient's own body into a factory for the therapeutic protein.
