bacTRL Tri is an investigational DNA-encoded gene therapy and vaccine candidate developed by Symvivo Corporation for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19. It utilizes the proprietary bacTRL™ platform, which employs a live, engineered probiotic bacterium, *Bifidobacterium longum*, as a vector to deliver plasmid DNA directly to host cells. Once administered orally or intravenously, the bacteria facilitate the delivery of genetic material encoding SARS-CoV-2 antigens into the patient's own cells. The 'Tri' designation suggests a trivalent approach, likely encoding three distinct viral antigens (such as the Spike, Nucleocapsid, and Membrane proteins) to elicit a broader immune response. This technology is designed to provide a stable, scalable, and potentially needle-free alternative to traditional mRNA or viral vector vaccines by enabling the patient's own body to produce the therapeutic proteins.
