Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bael pulp powder is a powdered preparation made from the dried pulp of the fruit of *Aegle marmelos*, commonly known as bael or bilva. It is widely used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine and folk remedies across India and Southeast Asia. The main bioactive constituents include tannins, flavonoids, coumarins, alkaloids (such as aegeline), phenolic compounds, vitamins (notably vitamin C), minerals (potassium, calcium), and dietary fiber[1][4][8]. Bael pulp powder is traditionally used for digestive health—especially to manage diarrhea and constipation—due to its antimicrobial activity against gut pathogens and its high fiber content which acts as a mild laxative[3][8]. Other purported uses include blood sugar regulation in diabetes (possibly by enhancing insulin secretion or reducing glucose absorption), cholesterol management via antioxidant effects on lipid profiles[2][3], anti-inflammatory action for skin conditions and ulcers[7], immune support due to antioxidant content[6], respiratory health through bronchodilatory effects of β-caryophyllene[8], liver detoxification, lactation support by increasing prolactin levels[2][6], wound healing, and general nutritional supplementation. However, robust clinical evidence supporting these uses remains limited; most data are from traditional use or preclinical studies.
