Overview

Baeocystin is a **small-molecule serotonergic tryptamine alkaloid** and a structural analogue of psilocybin that is being developed by **Pilz Bioscience** under the code name **PLZ-1019**. It has been described as a **5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A agonist** and is thought to function largely as a **prodrug of norpsilocin**, a centrally penetrant active metabolite with potent serotonin receptor activity. Baeocystin occurs naturally as a minor constituent of psilocybin-containing mushrooms and is currently reported to be in **discovery-stage development** for **pervasive developmental disorders such as autism in children**.
