Overview

BAH242 (also known as BH-002) is an autologous, dual-targeting chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by Essen Biotech. The therapy is engineered to express CARs that simultaneously target B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) and CD19, proteins found on the surface of plasma cells and B cells, respectively. By targeting both antigens, BAH242 aims to achieve a more comprehensive depletion of the autoreactive B-cell lineage, including long-lived plasma cells that are often resistant to standard CD19-targeted therapies. This approach is intended to reset the immune system in patients with severe, refractory autoimmune diseases. BAH242 is currently in Phase 2 clinical development for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and is being explored for other B-cell mediated conditions such as systemic sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
