Baicalein + human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (Exo@Bac) is an experimental nanotherapeutic combination consisting of the flavonoid baicalein encapsulated within exosomes harvested from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs). This formulation is designed to enhance the bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy of baicalein, a compound known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, by utilizing the natural blood-brain barrier-crossing capabilities and intrinsic regenerative potential of MSC-derived exosomes. Preclinical studies in Alzheimer's disease models indicate that Exo@Bac mitigates neurodegeneration by activating the AMPK pathway and inhibiting NF-κB signaling, leading to reduced amyloid-beta deposition, decreased pro-inflammatory cytokine production (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β), and enhanced antioxidant defense (SOD). This dual-action approach addresses multiple pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's, including oxidative stress and neuroinflammation.
