Overview

**Baicalein 5,6,7-trimethyl ether** is a synthetic or plant-derived flavonoid, specifically a trimethoxyflavone with methyl groups at positions 5, 6, and 7 on the baicalein backbone[4][2][12][13]. It is found naturally in several plants, including Callicarpa japonica and others[4]. Pharmacologically, it strongly stimulates **peroxisomal fatty acid β-oxidation** in human fibroblasts, especially those from patients with X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD), leading to reduced very long chain fatty acid (VLCFA) accumulation[1][3][5]. Research suggests it acts as a **peroxisomal fatty acid β-oxidation activator**; it is also described as an **inhibitor of p38-α MAPK**, suggesting potential anti-inflammatory activity[9][11][13]. Development so far is limited to preclinical and cell culture studies, particularly in the context of X-ALD.
