Baicalin aluminum is a metal-organic coordination complex consisting of baicalin, a flavonoid extracted from Radix Scutellariae (Scutellaria baicalensis), and aluminum ions. Developed by the State Key Laboratory of Trauma, Burns, and Combined Injury at the Third Military Medical University (Daping Hospital), this drug is designed to treat sepsis and severe infections by targeting bacterial endotoxins. Its primary mechanism involves binding to the Lipid A component of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which neutralizes the endotoxin and prevents it from triggering the TLR4-mediated inflammatory cascade. This action helps mitigate the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and multi-organ dysfunction associated with sepsis. The drug has been investigated in clinical trials in China as a novel anti-endotoxin therapy.
