Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Baihu Loulian granules is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) compound preparation primarily utilized as a hospital-made formulation in China for the treatment of severe inflammatory respiratory conditions, most notably COVID-19. The formula is an adaptation of the classic 'Baihu Tang' (White Tiger Decoction), which traditionally consists of Gypsum fibrosum, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, and Rice, with the strategic addition of Trichosanthes kirilowii (Gualou) and Coptis chinensis (Huanglian). Pharmacologically, it is designed to address the 'phlegm-heat obstructing the lungs' syndrome by clearing internal heat, resolving phlegm, and detoxifying the body. It has been specifically deployed in clinical settings to mitigate the 'cytokine storm' associated with severe viral pneumonia by inhibiting pro-inflammatory mediators such as IL-6 and TNF-alpha.
