Overview

Baijin Granules (Baijin Keli) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Miao ethnic medicine formula developed by researchers at the South-Central University for Nationalities, specifically the team led by Professor Mei Zhinan. The formulation is a combination of extracts from two primary medicinal plants: *Patrinia villosa* (Bai Jiang Cao) and *Smilax china* (Jin Gang Teng). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout. Baijin Granules exerts its therapeutic effects through a dual mechanism: it inhibits the activity of xanthine oxidase (XOD) in the liver, thereby reducing the endogenous production of uric acid, and it modulates the expression of key renal urate transporters. Specifically, it has been shown to downregulate the reabsorption transporters URAT1 and GLUT9 while upregulating the excretion transporter OAT1, collectively enhancing the renal clearance of uric acid.
