Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bailemian (百乐眠胶囊) is a proprietary Chinese medicine formulated as a capsule for the treatment of insomnia, particularly for patients with the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome of "yin deficiency with internal heat" or "liver depression and yin deficiency." The formula contains multiple herbal ingredients including lily bulb, acanthopanax senticosus (Siberian ginseng), polygonum multiflorum vine, albizia flower, mother-of-pearl, gypsum, zizyphus seed (sour jujube seed), poria cocos, polygala root, scrophularia root, rehmannia root, ophiopogon tuber, schisandra fruit, rush pith herb and salvia miltiorrhiza. Its main effects are nourishing yin to clear heat and calming the mind. Pharmacological studies indicate that Bailemian modulates neurotransmitter levels in the brain—raising gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), serotonin (5-HT), dopamine and norepinephrine while reducing glutamic acid—and may also regulate gut microbiota. It is widely used in China for short-term insomnia as well as chronic insomnia and post-stroke insomnia. Clinical studies suggest it improves sleep quality with a favorable safety profile[1][6][7][8].
