Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bailing Jiaonang (Bailing Capsule) is a traditional Chinese medicine product whose main active ingredient is fermented Cordyceps sinensis (also known as Hirsutella sinensis). It is produced by low-temperature fermentation of cordyceps strains and contains bioactive components such as cordyceps polysaccharides, amino acids, nucleosides (including adenosine and cordycepin), proteins, mannitol, sterols, fatty acids, purines and pyrimidines. Bailing Jiaonang exhibits antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and proteinuria-reducing effects. It has been widely used in China for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetic nephropathy (DN), respiratory diseases such as chronic bronchitis and asthma due to lung/kidney deficiency syndromes in TCM theory. Mechanistically, it improves renal function by reducing blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine levels and urinary protein excretion; it also reduces inflammatory markers like hs-CRP and IL-6. Transcriptomic studies indicate that its renoprotective effect involves activation of the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha (PPARα) pathway—enhancing lipolysis while inhibiting lipogenesis in kidney tissue[1][3][5][7]. The product is approved for use in China for kidney disease—including diabetic nephropathy—respiratory diseases and immune disorders.
