Baimai

Baimai is a traditional Tibetan medicine (TTM) formulation, most commonly utilized as a topical ointment (Baimai ointment). It is specifically indicated for the treatment of "Baimai" diseases, a category in Tibetan medicine that encompasses disorders of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems, such as paralysis, nerve damage, muscle contractures, and joint stiffness. The formulation is a complex mixture of botanical and mineral ingredients, typically including artificial musk, frankincense, myrrh, turmeric, and other herbs. In modern clinical practice, it is frequently applied to treat conditions such as postherpetic neuralgia, shoulder periarthritis, and cervical spondylosis. Recent clinical research has explored its use as a medicinal coupling agent for extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) to enhance analgesic and anti-inflammatory outcomes through improved local microcirculation and modulation of pain signaling pathways.
