Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bain De Soleil is a historic brand of sun care products, most famous for its "Orange Gelee" formulation, which was originally introduced in the 1940s. The product line primarily functions as a topical sunscreen and tanning aid. These formulations typically contain a combination of organic chemical filters, such as avobenzone, homosalate, octocrylene, and oxybenzone, which work by absorbing ultraviolet (UV) radiation (both UVA and UVB rays). By absorbing this energy and dissipating it as heat, the products prevent UV-induced DNA damage and erythema (sunburn). Formerly owned by Revlon and Procter & Gamble, the brand was acquired by Bayer as part of its 2014 purchase of Schering-Plough's consumer health business. Bayer discontinued the brand around 2019.
