Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Baiya SARS-CoV-2 Vax 2 is a second-generation, plant-produced recombinant protein subunit vaccine targeting COVID-19. It is based on the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the prototype (Wuhan) SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, produced in Nicotiana benthamiana plants and formulated with the adjuvant 3M-052-AF-alum, which acts as a toll-like receptor (TLR) 7/8 agonist. Preclinical studies demonstrated that Baiya SARS-CoV-2 Vax 2 induces strong RBD-specific IgG and neutralizing antibody responses in animal models, providing protection against multiple variants of concern including Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Omicron. The vaccine has shown favorable safety and tolerability profiles in non-human primates and rats. Baiya SARS-CoV-2 Vax 2 is being developed primarily for COVID-19 prevention[1][2][3].
