Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BAL-1901 is an investigational, orally active small molecule inhibitor of the NLRP3 (NACHT, LRR, and PYD domains-containing protein 3) inflammasome developed by BioAge Labs. It is designed to target chronic innate-immune injury and inflammation associated with aging and age-related diseases. In preclinical models, BAL-1901 has demonstrated protective effects on the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and retina in mouse models of geographic atrophy (GA) and dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), significantly reducing lesion volume and preserving RPE junctional architecture. Additionally, BAL-1901 has been shown to reverse age-associated behavioral and inflammatory phenotypes in aged mice.
