BAL 9504 is a **small molecule inhibitor** of protein geranylgeranyltransferase (also known as GGTase 1). It selectively inhibits geranylgeranylation, a lipid post-translational modification of target proteins, thereby impeding the function of pathways reliant on prenylated proteins, such as Rho and Rab GTPases. Preclinical studies demonstrate preferential cytotoxic and pro-apoptotic effects on human endothelial and certain cancer cells, with potential antiangiogenic and antitumor efficacy. The drug has shown induction of apoptosis in human MIA PaCa-2 pancreatic cancer cells and selective anti-endothelial activity, which may contribute to an improved therapeutic index in cancer therapy, particularly in neoplastic diseases[1][3].
