Balance is a pH-neutral peritoneal dialysis solution developed by Fresenius Medical Care. It is designed to provide a more biocompatible alternative to conventional acidic dialysis fluids by utilizing a dual-chamber system that separates glucose from the buffer during sterilization, thereby minimizing the formation of glucose degradation products (GDPs). Upon mixing before administration, the solution achieves a physiological pH. It contains glucose as an osmotic agent to remove excess water and toxins from the blood across the peritoneal membrane, along with essential electrolytes and a lactate buffer to correct metabolic acidosis in patients with chronic kidney failure.
