Balneum bath oil

Balneum bath oil is a topical emollient and bath additive used for the treatment of dry skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis (eczema) and dermatitis. Its primary active ingredient is soya oil (approximately 82.95–84.75%), which acts as an emollient by forming a thin protective film on the skin to prevent moisture loss and soothe dry, cracked skin. It also contains lauromacrogols (such as lauromacrogol 400), which function as local anaesthetics to relieve itching associated with eczema. The product is a small molecule topical formulation, suitable for all ages including infants. It was the subject of the BATHE trial, a Phase 4 randomized clinical and cost-effectiveness trial sponsored by the University of Southampton, which evaluated its use as a bath additive in addition to standard care for childhood atopic eczema. The drug is manufactured and marketed by Almirall.
