Overview

This is a combination of three aminosalicylate drugs—balsalazide, mesalamine, and sulfasalazine—used primarily for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis. All three agents act locally in the colon to reduce inflammation by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory mediators. Balsalazide and sulfasalazine are prodrugs that release mesalamine (5-aminosalicylic acid) in the colon; mesalamine itself is also used directly as an active drug. The combination would theoretically provide anti-inflammatory effects through multiple delivery mechanisms and sites within the gastrointestinal tract, but there is no evidence this specific triple combination is marketed or routinely prescribed as a single product. Each component has established efficacy for inducing and maintaining remission in mild to moderate ulcerative colitis[1][2][5].
