Overview

Balstilimab is a fully human IgG4 monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) receptor on T cells. By binding to PD-1, it blocks the interaction with its ligands PD-L1 and PD-L2, which are often exploited by tumor cells to evade immune detection. This blockade reactivates T-cell mediated immune responses against cancer cells. Balstilimab is being developed primarily for use in oncology as an immunotherapy and checkpoint inhibitor. It has been studied as monotherapy and in combination with other agents (such as botensilimab or zalifrelimab) across a range of solid tumors including cervical cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma, non-small cell lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and others[3][5][6][8].
