Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This experimental mouthrinse formulation, developed by researchers at Seoul National University, is a combination of three natural active ingredients: bamboo salt, magnolia bark extract, and *Centella asiatica* extract. Bamboo salt is a traditional Korean remedy produced by roasting sea salt in bamboo, known for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. Magnolia bark extract contains bioactive biphenols, such as honokiol and magnolol, which exhibit potent antimicrobial activity against oral pathogens. *Centella asiatica* extract is included for its well-documented wound-healing and anti-inflammatory effects, which aid in gingival tissue repair. The formulation was evaluated in a randomized crossover clinical trial to compare the efficacy of aqueous single-phase (ASM) and oil-water two-phase (OTM) versions in reducing gingivitis and dental plaque. Results indicated that the aqueous formulation significantly reduced bleeding on probing, suggesting clinical utility in managing periodontal inflammation.
